Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has confirmed the appointment of Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie as its 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has confirmed the appointment of Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie as its 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor.

He assumed office on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, succeeding Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, who had served as Acting Vice-Chancellor.

The handover ceremony, conducted at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, featured Professor Anyaehie’s formal assumption of duties and his expression of gratitude to God, whom he acknowledged as the source of strength and the reason he was found worthy to lead the institution named after the Zik of Africa. He stated that his administration would remain open, collaborative, and committed to ideas that advance the university’s mission and vision.

Professor Anyaehie emphasised that student and staff welfare would constitute the core priorities of his tenure, reiterating that students remain the fundamental justification for the roles held by employees of the university. He called on stakeholders across the institution to partner with him in driving excellence and progress.

In her remarks, Professor Arinze-Umobi, the immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor, expressed satisfaction with the transition and described Professor Anyaehie as a successor with integrity and proven competence. She noted their prior service together on a university governing council and urged him to remain focused and ignore distractions. She pledged continued support for his administration.

A prayer session, the formal handover of documents, and the symbolic act of leading Professor Anyaehie to his official seat formed key components of the event.

The ceremony was attended by principal officers and senior members of the university community, including Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, Registrar; Mr. Gozie Egwuatu, Bursar; Professor Stella Anasi, University Librarian; Professor F. J. Odibo, immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic); Barr. Philomena Okoye, immediate past Registrar; Mr. Victor Modebelu, immediate past Acting Registrar; Professor Philomena Igbokwe; Mr. Njelita Louis, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations; union leaders; and other stakeholders.
