The Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) South-South Zone, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) Friday, February 9, 2024 at the Liaison office, Tony Asikpo Street, Shelter Afrique, Uyo.

The Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) South-South Zone, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) Friday, February 9, 2024 at the Liaison office, Tony Asikpo Street, Shelter Afrique, Uyo. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss about the hosting right granted Akwa Ibom State University branch for the 2024 conference slated for March 10 to 13, 2024.

In his opening remarks, the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Nse U. Essien welcomed members of the Association and promised hitch- free deliberations throughout the period of their stay. He also assured of assistance towards the conference and further advised them to take the lead by coming in to the political space to practice their profession as political scientists.

In his speech, the Chairman, Nigerian Political Science Association South-South Zone, Prof. Franklin Sanubi thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his warm reception and magnanimity towards the Association. He stated that their mission was to officially inform him of the hosting right granted Akwa Ibom State University branch for the forthcoming conference, also to ascertain the level of preparedness of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the conference.

The Chairman pointed out areas of need for the conference to include: accommodation, transportation, power supply, security and financial support. He also stressed the need for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students to participate in the conference. Additionally, he solicited the presence of the University Management and other dignitaries during the opening ceremony.

The Chairman, Local Organising Committee, who doubles as the Vice-Chairman of NPSA South-South zone, Dr. Benson Udom stated that the LOC has proposed the use of Pinnacle Theatre at Obio Akpa Campus of the University as venue for the conference due to its proximity to the students and Uyo, the State capital. He added that other logistics pertaining to the event will be sorted out with the consent of the Vice-Chancellor.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Registrar, Akwa Ibom State University, Dr. Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga, FNIM thanked members of NPSA for ensuring the hosting right granted to Akwa Ibom State University and noted that the gesture has been reciprocated by the kind support of the Vice-Chancellor towards the conference. She added that the conference will impact positively on the University by increasing its visibility, also by exposing staff and students to more knowledge outside the classroom.

Present from AKSU at the meeting were: the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Otoabasi E. Akpan; the Bursar, Dr. Jacob M. Eseneyen and the Head of Department, Political Science, Dr. Sunny Piate; Dr. Ofonmbuk Atakpa, (Chairman, venue sub-committee); Dr Sunday Ibanga; Mr. John Obisung; Mr. Ben Oyombio (Protocol and publicity sub-committee); and members of the Directorate of information, Public Relations and Protocol.
