The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has charged newly admitted freshmen into the Faculties of Education to always put in their best by competing with the best of themselves should they want to achieve what they want to become for their families and the society at large.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has charged newly admitted freshmen into the Faculties of Education to always put in their best by competing with the best of themselves should they want to achieve what they want to become for their families and the society at large.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the charge while declaring open an Orientation Exercise organized for freshmen admitted into the three faculties of Education for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Speaking at the event held at the Institution's Senate Chamber, the Vice Chancellor represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of administration, Prof. Eno Grace Nta welcomed and congratulated all the freshmen for choosing the University of Calabar to further their studies.

Prof. Obi who described Education as a noble discipline said it is indeed the vocation that feeds all other Faculties in the Institution.

The University Administrator also said she prays and hopes the freshmen stay on the right path in the profession they have chosen, advising them to always avail themselves of the available professional counsellors when confronted with academic, personal or Vocational problems and the Gender Development Centre in the event of any form of harassment.

While urging the freshmen to take up their undergraduate responsibilities and learn to speak for themselves, the University helmsman informed them that her doors were open for all students to send in their Germane complaints.

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science Education, Prof. Arikpo Bassey Arikpo also charged the freshmen to develop sound behavioural pattern that would guide them throughout their journey in the Institution.

Prof. Arikpo Arikpo, in his welcome address, said Orientation exercises are organized basically to guide the newly admitted students on the rules and regulations of the faculties and expose them to all the requirements of becoming successful at the end of their studies in the Institution.

The Faculty helmsman further advised all the freshmen to pay good attention to their studies and shun things that would distract them in their academics.

Also speaking, the Dean of the Faculty of Educational Foundation Studies, Prof. Anthonia Inaja commended the students' steadfastness, saying she believes that they have learnt from the different presentations.

Prof. Anthonia Inaja who harped on students' dress code, stated that in the Faculties of Education, indecent dressing is not tolerated, admonishing all the freshmen to always dress modestly and responsibly avoiding apparel and adornments that can cast a smear on their profession because they were privileged to be admitted into the Education family.

The event also featured paper presentations from other Officials of the three Faculties on key issues such as "Students/Staff Relationship" by Prof. Christy Ihejimaizu of the Department of Science Education and "Ethics, Rules and Regulations" by Prof. Lulu Uwatt of the Department of Arts Education, and “ Requirements For Examination” by Prof Peter Bassey.
