The Dean of Environmental Sciences and Chairman, Committee of Deans, University of Calabar, Prof. Anim Ajake has informed newly admitted freshmen of the Faculty that the current administration is student-friendly hence the need for them to reciprocate the disposition by behaving decently.

The Dean of Environmental Sciences and Chairman, Committee of Deans, University of Calabar, Prof. Anim Ajake has informed newly admitted freshmen of the Faculty that the current administration is student-friendly hence the need for them to reciprocate the disposition by behaving decently.

Prof. Ajake stated this while delivering his welcome address to an orientation exercise organized for freshmen admitted into the faculty for the 2023/2024 academic session and held at the Faculty's Cartography Laboratory recently.

While Congratulating the students for their success during the admission process, the Dean stressed that the essence of the internal orientation exercise was to foster a more beneficial interaction between Staff and Students.

The Chairman, Committee of Deans stated that the faculty is known for hard work, commitment and integrity, noting that there was a need for the exercise to inculcate these qualities into the students.

Prof. Ajake reiterated that the faculty is built and operates strictly on professionalism and service skills, adding, that the faculty is also blessed with potential for skills acquisition.

He said the students of the faculty should count themselves as lucky, even as he noted that most of the recent world challenges revolve around environmental factors such as climate change.

The Dean urged the students to shun all forms of bad habits including examination malpractices, cultism, drug abuse and theft that can mar the image of the faculty, admonishing that the students should ensure they handle the facilities in the faculty with ultimate care.

This is even as he advised in his words; "tune your mind towards being a scientist and make friends with colleagues in science-based courses."

Prof. Ajake commended the great performance of past students in the labour market, saying that, the University is known for credibility due to the Staff's hard work and commitment towards academic excellence in the Institution.

On his part, the Sub-Dean, Dr. Oruk Egbai said the faculty is known for prompt attendance, sustainability, consistency, coordination and discipline, even as he urged the students to imbibe these qualities while learning for a successful graduation.

In the same vein, a 'word of charge' was presented by Prof. Eze Bassey Eze on the theme "Do not Forget Your Bible" with scriptural references from Proverbs 7:1, and Proverbs 3:1.

The Academic cum Clergy charged the students on the need to make the bible their companion, noting that it will not only moderate their habits in terms of dressing and study habits, it will also regulate their relationship/friendships, as well as change their perception, control their cravings and stimulate their devotion.

Prof. Eze encouraged the students to avoid skipping lectures and assignments, rather they should study hard and join study groups that can boost their learning skills.

The President, Faculty of Environmental Science Students (FESSA-UCC), Comr. Anipi Reuben Inimye stressed the need for students to be serious with their assessments and also to be friendly and courteous enough to ask questions for clarification from Staff when the need arises.

The event featured paper presentations by the various Heads of Departments on 'career prospects' as well as other resource persons drawn from the Faculty.
