Salem University Lokoja has received accreditation for five additional academic programs from the National Universities Commission (NUC). The vice-chancellor, Alewo Johnson-Akubo, announced the approval during a press briefing on Friday.

The accreditation was officially conveyed in a letter dated June 6, signed by Abraham Chindusu, the acting director of accreditation, on behalf of the NUC acting executive secretary, Chris Maiyaki. This development follows the NUC’s earlier accreditation of seven other programs at the university in 2022.

The newly accredited courses in the University’s College of Education include Business Education, Education Computer Science, Education English, Educational Management, and Social Studies. Previously accredited programs include BSc Computer Science, BSc Information Technology, BSc Geology, BSc Microbiology, BSc Biochemistry, and MSc/MBA Business Administration.

Vice-Chancellor Johnson-Akubo highlighted that the university had received NUC approval last year to offer PhD programs, aimed at boosting education for both Nigerian and international students. He emphasized the significance of this latest accreditation, stating, “This accreditation is cheering news to us as a university, which is out to train the youths to become global leaders and change agents that will bring about the needed growth and development in nations across the globe.”

He further noted that virtually all courses offered by Salem University Lokoja are now fully accredited, which has led to increased demand from prospective students. The vice-chancellor also mentioned the university's robust infrastructural development, which supports the institution’s capacity to admit more students into various departments.

Johnson-Akubo expressed gratitude to God and the Chancellor, Archbishop Sam Amaga, for their roles in achieving full accreditation for all the university's programs across its seven colleges.
