A nurse at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, identified as Nurse Jarma, was reportedly assaulted while on duty at the hospital’s Emergency Medicine Department (EMED).

According to reports, the incident occurred on March 13, 2026, during a night shift when the nurse was allegedly attacked by five female relatives of a patient who had just passed away. Witnesses said Nurse Jarma and his medical team had attended to the patient before the death occurred.

Following the assault, Nurse Jarma was diagnosed with an injury to the tympanic membrane (eardrum) after sustaining multiple blunt injuries during the attack.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of healthcare workers, particularly those working in emergency units where tensions often run high. Colleagues and supporters have called for justice and stronger protection for medical personnel while performing their duties.
