NYSC Director General Appeals for Enhanced Corps Members' Allowance During Advocacy Visit
General Ahmed urged the Commission to consider Corps Members in the implementation of the Federal Government's newly approved minimum wage for public servants. He emphasized the need for increased financial support to better empower Corps Members.
In a bid to secure improved welfare for Corps Members, Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), visited Mr. Ekpo Nta, Chairman of the National Salaries, Income, and Wages Commission, in Abuja today.
General Ahmed urged the Commission to consider Corps Members in the implementation of the Federal Government's newly approved minimum wage for public servants. He emphasized the need for increased financial support to better empower Corps Members.
Mr. Ekpo Nta, who served as a Corps Member in Kano in 1977, acknowledged the NYSC as the largest youth program globally. He assured that necessary actions would be taken as soon as possible regarding the appeals made by General Ahmed.
Mr. Nta also advocated for post-camp accommodation for all Corps Members and stressed the importance of creating enabling environments to support their statutory responsibilities. He highlighted the need for increased productivity from all workers and commended the NYSC for equipping Corps Members with valuable skills, which have enabled many to become job creators.
Additionally, Mr. Nta criticized some Corps Employers for rejecting Corps Members and urged them to engage Corps Members productively. He noted that the Commission supports Corps Members in acquiring soft skills that enhance their productivity and future career prospects.
