The National Youth Service Corps in Lagos has today conducted the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers in Somolu.

Speaking at the programme, State Coordinator NYSC Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, said, the conduct of the medical outreach in Somolu is in fulfillment of the objective of the scheme, and in furtherance of humanitarian works synonymous to the corps medical personnel of the scheme, in order to give back to the society.

Myschoolnews reports in their goodwill messages, the SA Education at the Somolu Local Government Area, Prince Sodiq Adeeso, said the posting of corps members to the Council has helped immensely in the area of education, especially during this vacation period when pupils are taught by corps members.

 He appreciated the enormity of the contributions of corps members and advocated for the posting of more corps members to the Council.

In the same vein, Mr. Maku Abiodun, representing the Human Resource Officer of the Council, has called on the management of the NYSC to ensure the HIRD programme continues and never abated as it is beneficial to many who cannot access medical care through one reason or the other.

The sponsors of the programme are Colgate, Pidgin LifeCare Foundation, who were there to also distribute food items and other products to attendees who are there to access medical care.

The 1-day programme which began yesterday with a community-based sensitization, had 51 medical personnel, which comprise of 19 Doctors, 9 Pharmacists, 7 Nurses, 5 Physiotherapists, 2 Optometrists, 1 Dentist and 8 Medical Laboratory Scientists deployed for the exercise which attended to 428 indigents of Somolu.
