OGITECH Honours Dr. Agbeyangi Following Landmark Sabbatical Success
The academic community of the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, gathered on Thursday, February 26, 2026, to hold a valedictory session in honour of Dr. Adisa Babatunde Agbeyangi, marking the successful conclusion of his one-year sabbatical leave.
The event, held at the Institute’s central conference room, served as a high-level recognition of Dr. Agbeyangi’s administrative and academic contributions during his twelve-month tenure.
A Legacy of Administrative Reform
Dr. Agbeyangi, a Chief Lecturer from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, was lauded by the Rector, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, as a "faithful co-labourer." During his sabbatical, he chaired several high-priority committees that significantly restructured the Institute's operations:
Pension Remittance: He successfully navigated the backlog of inherited pension allowances, ensuring prompt remittances moving forward.
Data Analysis & Research: As Chairman of the Data Analysis Committee, he provided a blueprint for staff to leverage data for effective journal publications and streamlined tax processes for financial relief.
Quality Assurance: He was instrumental in standardising academic reading materials and institutionalizing the Institute's first-ever workshop on effective research and writing.
Mentorship and Professional Growth
Tributes from the Academic Board highlighted Dr. Agbeyangi’s "welfarist" approach. Dr. Sewanu Bankole and Mr. Olusesi Akeem commended his dedication to mentoring junior lecturers and PhD candidates, as well as his efforts in enhancing the professional image of the Polytechnic staff.
The Deputy Rector, Dr. Oluyemi Odutola, noted that Dr. Agbeyangi’s devotion was felt even when he was off-campus, describing his impact as "immense."
A Final Charge: "Publish or Perish"
In a heartfelt response, Dr. Agbeyangi expressed gratitude to the OGITECH management but concluded with a stern professional charge to his colleagues. He urged academic staff to embrace constructive criticism, master data analysis, and prioritise consistent research. Invoking the academic mantra, he warned that lecturers must "publish or perish," emphasizing that conference participation and journal writing are non-negotiable for institutional growth.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Folasade Oladipo, who remarked that Dr. Agbeyangi leaves behind a lasting legacy that has positively touched every level of the institution's workforce.
