Oko Poly Rector Inaugurates New SUG Executive

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has inaugurated the newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) executive, urging them to serve as responsible ambassadors of the institution and leave behind a legacy of peace, accountability, and impact.

Oko Poly Rector Inaugurates New SUG Executive

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has inaugurated the newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) executive, urging them to serve as responsible ambassadors of the institution and leave behind a legacy of peace, accountability, and impact.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the Mass Communication Complex, with Engr. Barr. Ezeilo Joseph administering the oath of office to the elected officers.

In the recently concluded election, Comrade Anuluonye Ifechukwu Joseph of Electrical Electronics Engineering emerged as SUG President, while Comrade Nweke Kosarachi was elected Vice President.

Other members of the executive include:

  • Comrade Chukwurah Munachi – Secretary General
  • Dimejesi Marydoris – Assistant Secretary General
  • Okafor Ifechukwu – Financial Secretary
  • Chinedu Meshark – Treasurer
  • Nwokpuru Eugene – Public Relations Officer
  • Unegbu Chinwoke – Provost
  • Okolo Isaac – Director of Transport I
  • Ezechukwukaeme Emelie – Director of Transport II
  • Joseph Izuchukwu – Director of Welfare
  • Oguzie Solomon – Director of Sports
  • Obilo Makuochukwu – Director of Social

Also inaugurated were Comrade Uzoagbala Chibike Kenechukwu, SUG Speaker of Parliament, alongside other parliamentarians; Comrade Ekweali Godwin Chiemelie, Chief Judge of the SUG; Comrade Nwadike Philip Chidera, Chief Justice; and other judiciary officials.

Addressing the students, Dr. Awuzie urged the officials to prioritize peace, unity, and dialogue in their administration.
“Remember that the Polytechnic is your home, protect it. The students are your mandate, serve them. The management is your partner, work with them. Let your tenure be remembered as one of peace, creativity, accountability and impact. Build bridges, not walls, inspire trust, not fear. Leave behind a legacy that future generations of Federal Polytechnic, Oko students will celebrate,” the Rector said.

She reiterated the management’s zero-tolerance policy for cultism, examination malpractices, sexual harassment, extortion, and other social vices, urging students to report any form of abuse or dishonest behavior.

In his acceptance speech, SUG President Comrade Anuluonye Ifechukwu Joseph expressed gratitude to students for entrusting him with leadership. He pledged to work closely with the Rector and management to achieve the Polytechnic’s vision while reiterating his commitment to innovative transport strategies and improved welfare for students.
He also called for stronger communication between management and the union to enable effective representation.

Earlier, the Director of Students’ Affairs, Comrade Chibuzo Asomugha, commended the Rector and management for ensuring a peaceful and transparent election. He urged the new executive to remain focused and assured them of institutional support, advising them to channel complaints through the Labour Relations office, DSA’s office, or the Rector’s office for prompt resolution.

The event marked the beginning of a new SUG administration at Federal Polytechnic Oko, with high expectations from both management and students.
