The Oyo State Police Command has detained officers, including Inspector Rasheed Saheed, suspected to be involved in the shooting incident that led to the death of a corp member, Iyanda Damilola. The tragic incident occurred during a celebration in Ogbomoso following his brother's convocation ceremony at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH).

In response to public outcry and student protests demanding justice for Damilola, the Oyo State Police Command assured the public of a thorough investigation. The state Commissioner of Police has taken charge of the case, vowing to ensure justice is served.

Damilola, a serving corp member in Ibadan, was visiting Ogbomoso to celebrate his brother's academic milestone when the unfortunate incident took place. Following the incident, the National Association of University Students, Oyo chapter, reported that no classes were attended by students in protest against the tragic death of their mate.

The police provided their account of the events, stating that officers fired shots into the air to disperse a crowd, claiming they heard gunshots from other sources. While the police neither confirmed nor denied the involvement of their officers in the shooting, they emphasized that conclusive findings would depend on post-mortem test results.

The case has been transferred to the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the investigations. The police have also confirmed that Damilola's injured brother has been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.
