National Executive members of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

National Executive members of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nse U. Essien welcomed and thanked all executive members of the Association drawn from different Universities in Nigeria. Prof. Essien acknowledged the role members of the Association play in handling parasites especially the invisible ones.

He urged them to continue with research to combat the outbreak of dangerous diseases and viruses as what happened in the COVID '19 era. He pledged full support to the Local Organising Committee towards a successful hosting of the proposed 48th annual conference of the Association.

In his speech, the National President of the Parasitologist Association of Nigeria, Prof. Sammy Sam-Wobo, informed that the purpose of the visit was to formally intimate the Vice-Chancellor of the Association's plan to host this year's National conference in Akwa Ibom State University. He thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception and commended the University Management for ensuring serenity of the environment.

The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Prof. Ken Ukpara, explained to the Vice-Chancellor that Akwa Ibom State University has been granted the right to host the National conference proposed for October this year. He solicited support for the event and said that the Association relied on the Vice-Chancellor in this regard.

According to the LOC Chairman, the conference will positively impact on the visibility of the University as it will be attended by all the Universities in Nigeria.

Highlight of the visit was presentation of the 45th edition of the 'Nigeria Journal of Parasitology' to the Vice-Chancellor.

Present during the visit were: the Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Academic, Prof. OtoAbasi Akpan; Head, Department of Zoology, Dr. Imekan Akoan; Head of Administration, Vice Chancellor's Office, Mr. Akaninyene Ibanga; Head, Directorate of information, Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. Gabriel Otu and members of the same Directorate. Also present were executive members of the Parasitologist Association of Nigeria from different Universities.
