President Tinubu Assures No Student Will Drop Out of School Due to Tuition Fees

President Bola Tinubu of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has pledged that no student will face the risk of dropping out of school due to an inability to pay tuition fees under his administration. The affirmation was made during the 33rd convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA) in Akure on Saturday.

Represented by Professor King-David Terna Yawe of the National University Commission (NUC), President Tinubu emphasized the importance of exploring dialogue and exhausting all avenues before considering strike actions, which he deemed a last resort. He expressed his disapproval of industrial disharmony in universities, citing its negative impact on academic life.

Addressing challenges in higher education, President Tinubu assured that his administration was actively working to address them comprehensively. He highlighted the signing of the Students Loan Bill into law as one of his initial actions after inauguration, aiming to provide interest-free loans for indigent students in tertiary institutions.

Underlining his commitment, President Tinubu stated, "Under my watch and as I have said in my manifesto, no student will drop out of school as a result of inability to pay school charges."

Commending FUTA for maintaining its status as the Best University of Technology in the country, President Tinubu credited the achievement to the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adenike Oladiji and the institution's management. The Vice-Chancellor reported that 3,491 students graduated, with 195 earning first-class honors.
