The Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Prof. Austin Angba has recounted his achievements in office as Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS and pledged to achieve more before the end of his 5-year tenure, Myschoolnews report.

He recounted the achievements and made the pledge yesterday, during the opening day of activities for the celebration of his third anniversary in office as Vice Chancellor.

 

The Vice Chancellor stated that his achievements include the completion and furnishing of Faculty of Communication and Media Studies building, resuscitation of UNICROSS printing press, construction and furnishing of ultra modern Library in Ogoja campus, remodelling of TETFUND building that was previously abandoned in Ogoja campus, provision of top notch equipment in laboratories such as the Department of Microbiology's laboratory, successful full accreditation of most programmes in UNICROSS and approval of seventeen new programmes for commencement of academic activities.

He also mentioned the change of name from Cross River University of Technology to University of Cross River State as one of his many achievements and added that the University's ranking in Nigeria rose from 76th in 2020 to 42nd in 2023.

Similarly, he disclosed that Times Higher Education recently ranked UNICROSS as 32nd best University in sub Saharan Africa and 7th best University in Nigeria.

Prof. Angba pledged to ensure that an office complex for Professors gets constructed and completed before the end of his tenure in office as Vice Chancellor. He said that when completed, the complex will not be different from the Senate Chambers in the National Assembly.

The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that the 1000 seating capacity auditorium that was initially abandoned will be completely constructed and furnished for use as venue for the next convocation ceremony of UNICROSS.

In addition, he expressed optimism that the Medical College will commence in Okuku campus next year, especially because the State Government is willing to fund it.

He said "very soon, UNICROSS will be among the best ten Universities in Nigeria".

 

He gave credit to Senator Ben Ayade, former Governor of Cross River State, for his appointment and thanked Senator Bassey Otu, Governor of Cross River State and the State Government for always supporting UNICROSS.

In the same vein, he thanked the Governing Council, the University's Management team, Senate, staff and students for their support.

Prof. Angba gave special thanks to his wife and children for giving him permission to serve as Vice Chancellor, despite the huge sacrifice that this entails.

Yesterday's activities in celebration of Prof. Angba's third anniversary in office as Vice Chancellor included a thanksgiving service and awards to deserving students, Departments and Faculties.

Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences emerged as the best overall Faculty while Faculty of Communication Technology emerged as the second best overall Faculty.

Faculty of Architecture clinched the third best Faculty award.

The Vice Chancellor's third anniversary celebration is specially dedicated to retirees of UNICROSS.

The celebration continued this morning with physical exercises and will end tomorrow with Thanksgiving and reception at Redeemed Christian Church of God, Kings Court Parish, Calabar.
