Professor Babajide Elemo, a distinguished Biochemistry scholar, has advocated for enhanced funding of the Lagos State University (LASU) by the Lagos State Government. In his valedictory lecture titled "From Foundation to Future: An Odyssey of a Biochemist's Four Decades at LASU," Prof. Elemo underscored the importance of increased financial support to bolster research activities and address infrastructure challenges at the institution.

In a poignant valedictory lecture titled "From Foundation to Future: An Odyssey of a Biochemist's Four Decades at LASU," Professor Babajide Elemo, a distinguished scholar in Biochemistry, has called for increased funding of the Lagos State University (LASU) by the Lagos State Government. Prof. Elemo's address emphasized the critical need for enhanced financial support to bolster research activities and address infrastructural deficits within the institution.
During his lecture delivered on Thursday in Lagos, Prof. Elemo highlighted the pressing need for additional resources, particularly biochemical reagents, laboratory chemicals, and consumables, to facilitate research management both at LASU and on a national scale. He stressed that adequate funding was essential to advance scientific inquiry and innovation, positioning LASU as a hub for groundbreaking research and scholarship.
Furthermore, Prof. Elemo underscored the urgency of expanding physical infrastructure to accommodate the burgeoning student population at LASU. He called for the establishment of additional staff offices, classrooms, and laboratories conducive to learning and research, citing the current strain on existing facilities due to increasing enrollment numbers.
In a forward-looking proposal, Prof. Elemo advocated for the creation of an industrial park and technology incubation center within LASU's campus. This initiative, he argued, would facilitate technology transfer and equip students with the entrepreneurial skills necessary for success in the modern economy.
Additionally, Prof. Elemo urged the Lagos State government to prioritize LASU for consultancy services across various disciplines, thereby leveraging the institution's expertise for the benefit of the state and beyond. He emphasized the importance of supporting the growth and development of newly established faculties, particularly those in emerging fields.
