Professor Amina Salihi Bayero Leads NWUK Delegation on Official Visits to JAMB Headquarters, Federal Ministry of Education and National Assembly
As part of ongoing efforts to reposition Northwest University Kano (NWUK) for greater academic excellence and institutional development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, on Thursday, 5th February 2026, paid strategic familiarization visits to the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, and the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, in Abuja.
The visits formed part of Professor Bayero’s broader engagement with key educational stakeholders since assuming office as the first female Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano, with the aim of strengthening partnerships and securing greater institutional support for the University.
During her visit to the JAMB Headquarters, Professor Bayero informed the Registrar that the purpose of her visit was to further consolidate the already established working relationship between JAMB and NWUK. She explained that the visit was also to formally present herself to the Registrar in her capacity as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University and to express appreciation for JAMB’s continuous support and cooperation with NWUK over the years.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to Professor Oloyede for granting her audience and commended him for his remarkable efforts in sanitizing and enhancing the admission processes into tertiary institutions across Nigeria. She noted that JAMB’s reforms have significantly improved transparency, credibility, and efficiency in admissions nationwide.
Professor Bayero also sought for stronger collaboration between the University and JAMB, assuring the Registrar of NWUK’s commitment to full compliance with JAMB regulations and guidelines governing admission processes.
In his response, the JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, warmly welcomed the Vice-Chancellor to the Board’s Headquarters and expressed delight over her appointment as the first female Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano. He described her emergence as well deserved, citing her rich academic and administrative antecedents, having risen through the ranks within the university system to attain the position.
Professor Oloyede acknowledged Professor Bayero’s numerous contributions to educational development through the various leadership roles she has occupied within the academic community. He thanked her for the visit and assured her of JAMB’s continued support towards the progress and growth of Northwest University Kano. The Registrar further prayed for Allah’s guidance and expressed optimism that her tenure would record remarkable achievements for the University.
Similarly, Professor Bayero paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, at the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja. The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and following up on requests earlier submitted by the University regarding various intervention programmes of the Ministry.
While receiving the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad expressed appreciation for the visit and noted that the discussions held would translate into meaningful and positive developments for Northwest University Kano. She commended the Vice-Chancellor for her proactive leadership approach and expressed readiness to support the University within the framework of the Ministry’s intervention programmes. The Honourable Minister also expressed her willingness to sustain engagements with the University towards promoting educational advancement.
The Vice-Chancellor also held an interactive meeting with the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, alongside members of the Board of Trustees of Motivating Action Towards Achieving Nutrition (MATAN) and representatives of some international partner organisations at the National Assembly Complex, Garki, Abuja.
During the interactive session, Professor Bayero highlighted several strategic areas through which the University stands to benefit from collaborative engagements with relevant stakeholders. She emphasized the importance of promoting partnerships with industries, organisations, and government agencies as a pathway to strengthening academic programmes and research outputs. The Vice-Chancellor further stressed the need to develop and promote technology and innovation within the University, enhance training opportunities for staff and students, improve welfare initiatives, and boost graduate employability through practical and industry-driven educational approaches.
In his remarks, the Chairman, House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, Hon. Chike Okafor, commended the Vice-Chancellor for her commitment and proactive engagement with national and international development partners. He emphasized the critical role of universities in advancing research, policy development, and community-based solutions to address food security and nutritional challenges in Nigeria. Hon. Okafor assured the Vice-Chancellor of the Committee’s readiness to support collaborative initiatives that would strengthen capacity building, research development, and knowledge dissemination in areas related to nutrition, food security, and sustainable development.
Professor Bayero was accompanied on both visits by the Director of Physical Planning and Development (PP&D), Engr. Ramatu Aminu Ahmad; the Head of Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR), Malam Ja’afar Sule Muhammad; and the Head of Administration and Protocol, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Malam Abubakar Ado Gwaram.
