Professor Bilkisu Aminu Shinkafi, a distinguished scholar and academic administrator, has made history with her appointment as the pioneering Vice-Chancellor of Tazkiyah University, Nigeria's first female-only university.

Her appointment in November 2025 marks a significant milestone in Nigerian higher education, emphasizing women-centered leadership and academic excellence.

An alumna of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, where she earned a Ph.D. in Fisheries Management, Prof. Shinkafi specializes in freshwater fish biology, ecology, and aquaculture. Her extensive research focuses on the reproductive biology, growth dynamics, and environmental sustainability of aquatic ecosystems, particularly within Northern Nigeria.

Prof. Shinkafi's career spans more than two decades, encompassing teaching, research, and administrative leadership roles at the Federal University Gusau, where her positions included Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Member of the Governing Council.

Her professional contributions extend to national governance; she serves on the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gusau, appointed by the President of Nigeria. Prof. Shinkafi has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, with her scholarly work addressing critical issues in fisheries and aquatic ecology, influencing sustainable management policies, food security data, and ecological conservation efforts in Northern Nigeria.
