In a significant development, Professor Polycarp Chigbu has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
The decision was reached during the 288th University's Governing Council Meeting held on Friday, August 16, at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC).
During the Senate meeting held on Monday, August 12, nine individuals contested for the nomination, but five emerged as top contenders.

As a result of this appointment, Professor Romanus Ezeokonkwo, who had been serving as Acting Vice-Chancellor for the past two months, will now return to his position as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration). Ezeokonkwo's election occurred during the 244th Senate meeting on June 7, 2024, following the expiration of the substantive Vice-Chancellor's tenure, Professor Charles Igwe.
It's worth noting that at the time of Professor Igwe's tenure expiration, there was no University Governing Council in place to conduct the necessary election, as required by law.
