Ihiala Local Government Area indigenes in Federal Polytechnic Oko turned out in large numbers on Thursday, August 7, 2025, to express their solidarity with the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, during a courtesy visit to her office.

Led by their chairman, Mr. Ugochukwu Onuigbo, the group said they came to congratulate Dr. Awuzie on her appointment as substantive Rector and to assure her of their unwavering support. Mr. Onuigbo described her emergence as a source of pride, noting that her track record speaks of excellence and transformation.

“We are praying for you. We are solidly behind you, come rain or sunshine. We will always be available to perform any assignment you call on us to undertake at any time. We will never sabotage your administration,” he said.

He commended the Rector for initiating priority projects, including the polytechnic printing press, which now produces high-quality answer scripts, and the staff sports club, which provides recreation opportunities for staff, among others. According to him, the quality of the ongoing projects is proof of her commitment to institutional growth.

In her response, Dr. Awuzie thanked the association for their show of solidarity and reminded them that, as one of their own, she expects their continued support. She called on those who had opposed her emergence to join hands in moving the polytechnic forward, adding that she had forgiven past grievances.

The Rector assured them of fairness in her administration, stating that no one would be denied their due benefits and that she had no intention of witch-hunting anyone.

Also present during the visit were the Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr. Kenneth Ezekwe; Deputy Rector (Academic), Dr. Nkiruka Akabuike; Bursar, Mr. Stephen Udu; and Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Nwabu Ezemba.
