Redeemer’s University Nursing Students Win Big at Golden Lamp Leadership Initiative Africa Competition

It was a moment of pride and celebration for the Redeemer’s University community as the Department of Nursing Science clinched top honours at the Golden Lamp Leadership Initiative Africa (GLLIA) Nursing Research Competition, held in Lagos on Saturday, September 24, 2025.

It was a moment of pride and celebration for the Redeemer’s University community as the Department of Nursing Science clinched top honours at the Golden Lamp Leadership Initiative Africa (GLLIA) Nursing Research Competition, held in Lagos on Saturday, September 24, 2025.

The university’s Nursing Science team outshone competitors from leading private and federal universities across the country, showcasing exceptional research and academic brilliance. Two standout students, Victor Saliu and Uba Paul, emerged as winners of the first and third prizes, respectively. Saliu received a prize of ₦2 million, while Paul was awarded ₦250,000. In addition, the department itself received a ₦1 million award, further affirming Redeemer’s University’s growing reputation in health sciences education.

The Acting Head of Department, Dr. Deborah Onisile, who led the team, returned triumphantly with the awards to the university. She was warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, ffan, fffps, alongside members of the management team.

Speaking during the reception, Prof. Akindele praised the students and faculty for their remarkable achievement, stressing that the department’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and innovation was now evident for all to see. He reaffirmed the university’s dedication to nurturing students who will make global impact in healthcare and beyond.
