Renowned Writer Professor Wole Soyinka Invites EFCC and ICPC to Investigate Alleged Certificate Fraud
Wole Soyinka

On Friday, October 6, Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka addressed allegations of academic certificate forgery and invited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. The esteemed literary icon gave his accusers a fresh ultimatum of 30 days to present any evidence they may have to substantiate their claims.

This development comes in response to an online publication that questioned the authenticity of Professor Soyinka's academic records and suggested that they were attributed to a Bristol schoolteacher, as reported.

Professor Soyinka expressed his willingness to waive all protections under the statute of limitations and insisted that the laws governing fraudulent academic claims be rigorously applied to the allegations against him. He unequivocally stated that, if found guilty by the EFCC and ICPC, he would willingly renounce any titles and honors he had received throughout his entire career, from the most obscure to the most prestigious.

In addition to addressing the certificate fraud allegations, Professor Soyinka also called upon the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the alleged rigging of the Ekiti governorship election that took place in June 2014, according to SaharaReporters.

In a passionate declaration, Professor Soyinka noted the seriousness of the allegations and drew parallels to a document of similar nature that had circulated during the rule of General Sani Abacha. He emphasized the need for a transparent and comprehensive investigation to clarify these accusations and uphold the integrity of academic credentials and democratic processes.
