The management of the University of Abuja Uniabuja has announced the selection of Richard Okafor of Uniabuja by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to participate in the fully sponsored  Faculty Exchange Programme  (FEP) at Tuskegee University, Alabama. myschoonews reporting. 

Dr Richard Oluchukwu Sunday, OKAFOR of the Department of Veterinary Surgery has been selected by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), to participate in a fully sponsored  Faculty Exchange Programme  (FEP) at the Tuskegee University, Alabama, United States of America (USA). 

The Tuskegee University is reputed to have   produced over 75 percent of African-American veterinarians, globally.

The FEP is a fellowship programme  that pairs early to mid-career academic professionals in the field of veterinary science and medicine from African nations with US -based colleagues and institutions to develop and implement up-to-date curricula for their students and universities. 

 Following the US-based portion of the programme, the mentors from the US,  will conduct post-programme  return visits to the fellows in their respective countries and seek continued collaboration. 

Head  of the Department of Large Animal Clinical Services, Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama,  Professor David McKenzie,  will serve as Okafor's  mentor during the programme.

This opportunity will amongst other things allow the scholar  to work one-on-one with an expert in Veterinary Surgery and to apply the knowledge and technical skills gained in training of staff and students of UofA.  Tuskegee University will assist in setting up a world-class Veterinary Surgical theatre and up-to-date curricula of veterinary surgery at the UofA. Support the vision of UofA for global visibility, world-class status, and in general, the agricultural sector in Nigeria.

  The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has also shown willingness to use the University of Abuja as a focal point for future veterinary science programmes. 

The Faculty Exchange Programme  (FEP)  is expected to kick off from 3rd January - 2nd May 2023.
