In a tragic incident in western Russia, a teenage girl shot and killed a fellow pupil at Gymnasium No 5 in Bryansk, near the Ukrainian and Belarusian borders, before turning the gun on herself. The shooting resulted in five injuries, one of them serious, according to Russian authorities.

Members of the Russian Duma, including Alexander Khinshtein, expressed concerns about the tragedy, pointing out the neglectful storage of the gun as one of the reasons behind the incident. Russia has strict gun laws, requiring secure storage accessible only by the legal owner and regular police inspections.
While students, teachers, and parents received psychological support, this incident marks a rare case of a female shooter in school shootings in Russia. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
