School of Computing Clinches Top Spot at 2025 FUTA Alumni Games
The School of Computing has emerged overall winner of the 2025 Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Alumni Association Worldwide Sports Festival after defeating the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT) 1–0 in the football final that wrapped up the week-long sporting fiesta on Friday, August 28, 2025.

With the gold medal in football, the School of Computing amassed 19 points to secure first place, while the School of Logistics and Innovation Technology finished second with 15 points. SAAT came third with an aggregate of 13 points. Apart from football, the festival also featured basketball and male and female relay events.

In her closing remarks, FUTA Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, urged the winners to sustain the momentum, stressing the unifying role of sports in fostering national cohesion. “Football makes Nigerians forget about tribalism, bringing us together as one family and a united country,” she said, while commending the Alumni Association for its consistent support and contributions to the university.

Ondo State Commissioner for Education and FUTA alumnus, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, represented by his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Dr. Yomi Akinrinade, praised the organizers for engaging youths through sports. He noted that the initiative would not only benefit FUTA but also contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s sporting industry.

Similarly, Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, represented by Mrs. Evelyn Lebi, emphasized the importance of balancing academics with physical exercise. He described the festival as a platform for talent discovery and pledged support to replicate similar alumni sporting events in other universities.
In his welcome address, President of FUTA Alumni Worldwide, Engr. Adeyemi Bello, lauded the performance of FUTA students in national and international sporting events, including NUGA, All-University Games, and the World University Games. He expressed gratitude to the university management for their backing, acknowledging the Vice Chancellor’s active participation throughout the festival.

He also congratulated stakeholders such as the Chairman of FUTA Sports Council, Professor Christopher Akinbile, Director of Sports, Dr. Alayode Ajibua, and the organizing committee for delivering another successful edition.

The 2025 FUTA Alumni Sports Festival opened on Monday, August 24, with the symbolic lighting of the Olympic torch by Engr. Bello. The Vice Chancellor officially declared the event closed after presenting trophies to the winners and runners-up.
