Security Forces Use Tear Gas to Disperse Protesting NSUK Students Over SUG Election Dispute

On Thursday, security operatives fired tear gas to disperse undergraduate students at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), who were protesting alleged irregularities in the Students Union Government (SUG) elections held the previous day.

The students were protesting at the university's main campus, alleging that the election had been rigged. They demanded the immediate announcement of Comrade Babangida Osome, popularly known as Osimhen, as the winner of the presidential race.

The protesters, who marched to the Senate building carrying placards with various messages, urged the university's management, led by Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, to intervene and declare Osome as President-Elect.

In response, security forces were deployed to manage the situation, leading to clashes. Meanwhile, supporters of Comrade Ridwan Ahmed Barade also claimed victory and called for the electoral commission to declare their candidate as the winner.

As of now, the electoral commission has not yet released the results of the election.
