Student Dies After Receiving Over 130 Strokes Of The Cane From Kaduna School Principal, VP

Marwanu Nuhu Sambo, a 16-year-old student at Al-Azhar Academy in Zaria, Kaduna state, tragically passed away after enduring 130 strokes of the cane from the school authorities. The incident occurred on October 20, 2023, on the school premises, located at Kofar Gayan in the Zaria Local Government Area.

The school administrators subjected the student to severe physical punishment, resulting in his demise.

Dr. Usman Abubakar Zaria, the Director-General of Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA), has confirmed the incident and has taken action by ordering the immediate closure of the Al-Azhar Academy. The school premises are now sealed pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. The incident has stirred demands for justice from the family of the deceased student.
The Kaduna State Police Command is currently investigating the matter, as confirmed by ASP Mansur Hassan, the spokesperson for the police.
