Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central senatorial district, visited the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, on Friday to express her sympathies and offer support following a recent kidnapping incident at the university.

During her visit, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan lamented the tragic circumstances and emphasized the importance of safety in educational institutions. "What has befallen CUSTECH a few weeks ago is what has happened to many institutions in Nigeria, and it’s quite worrisome. No child should fear for their safety in a place of learning; educational institutions should be the safest places," she said.

The senator pledged her commitment to support the university in addressing insecurity and enhancing safety measures. She encouraged the Vice Chancellor to identify areas where her assistance would be most beneficial. "Education is something I value dearly, and many of my 2024 constituency projects focus on strengthening our educational institutions," she added, highlighting her ongoing projects at other educational institutions in Kogi State.

Professor Abdulrahman Salawu, the Vice Chancellor of CUSTECH, welcomed Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's visit and support. He stressed the need for governance and collaboration beyond political differences to tackle insecurity. He also noted that despite efforts to rescue the abducted students, two had been killed by their kidnappers. He called on the senator to advocate for more robust federal government intervention to address the security challenges.
