The management of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, has indefinitely suspended its ongoing second-semester examinations following the tragic killing of a final-year student, Olaoye Fabiyi, by suspected cultists on Wednesday.

According to reports, Fabiyi was forcibly removed from his examination hall by unidentified armed men. Witnesses say the attackers dragged him to a corner, shot him, and struck him with a brick on the head, ensuring he was dead before leaving the scene.

Bethel Olorunfunmi, the acting President of the Students’ Union, confirmed Fabiyi's death, stating that medical personnel at a nearby general hospital were unable to save him.

In response to the incident, the school's Deputy Registrar, Babatunde Odugbesan, announced the indefinite suspension of all examinations initially scheduled for July 4 and 5, 2024. Odugbesan assured students of their safety and urged them to remain calm while investigations are underway.

"The university management has directed the suspension of all examinations previously scheduled for Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5, 2024, until further notice. Students are assured of their safety and are advised to remain calm while investigations are ongoing to get to the root of the cultist attack on a student on campus. Please note and be guided accordingly. Management will issue further notices on the resumption of examinations," the statement read.

The Ogun State Police Command, represented by spokesperson Omolola Odutola, confirmed that an investigation had commenced and raids on suspected cultist hideouts in the area were underway. "Our officers immediately moved to the scene of the incident. All possible hideouts of the suspects were combed and raided by our detectives, including those from other divisions in the area. Every effort is being made to ensure that all the perpetrators are apprehended," Odutola stated.
