The College of Medicine at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI), Osun State, is currently experiencing a state of academic tension following reports of unconfirmed resignations of senior medical lecturers, as investigated by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to NAN's findings, the alleged resignations stem from perceived maltreatment of one of their colleagues, Prof. Tijani Adekilekun, by the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University, Prof. Akeem Lasisi. The lecturers expressed concerns that if urgent measures are not taken to address the situation, the university's College of Medicine may face existential threats.

Despite Adekilekun's prompt response to the allegations, denying the accusations and urging the school management to conduct a proper investigation, the VC allegedly proceeded to terminate his appointment without due process. In solidarity with their colleague, several senior medical teachers protested against what they perceived as the unjust treatment of the dean. However, their efforts reportedly led to further repercussions, including queries issued to them by the university administration.

Consequently, four senior academic staff members, who were signatories to the protest letter, tendered their resignations, exacerbating the academic crisis within the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.Efforts by stakeholders, including the traditional ruler of Ila-Orangun and other prominent figures, to mediate and resolve the dispute have thus far yielded no positive outcomes.

Responding to inquiries, Adekilekun refrained from commenting on the matter, stating that it is under the purview of university management and prominent stakeholders.Meanwhile, a former senior management staff of the college downplayed the significance of the allegations, suggesting that without official communication, the matter holds no weight.

However, the absence of clarity on the situation has left a vacuum within the College of Medicine, raising concerns about the welfare and academic progression of the university's medical sciences students. While the Registrar of the university refrained from commenting, citing ongoing investigations, efforts to reach the VC for his perspective were unsuccessful.
