TETFUND Foreign Scholars Urge Tinubu to Intervene Over Unpaid Bailout Funds

Nigeria’s foreign scholars sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) have sought the intervention of President Bola Tinubu regarding unpaid bailout funds. In a letter dated June 6, 2024, the scholars, under the group "Omitted Foreign Scholars (OFS)," expressed distress over being excluded from recent disbursements.

Kamal Odunjo-Saka, Chairman of the Foreign Scholars, highlighted that 45% of scholars were omitted from the bailout intended to mitigate COVID-19 impacts, currency devaluation, and inflation. He criticized TETFUND for allegedly denying payments based on arbitrary program status distinctions, affecting scholars currently enrolled or recently graduated.
