In a heartbreaking incident, Christiana Idowu, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, was abducted and subsequently killed by her captor. Christiana was kidnapped on her way from Ikorodu to the University of Lagos, where she was undergoing industrial training, and her tragic fate has sparked widespread outrage.
According to reports, Christiana's family was first contacted by the abductor through her WhatsApp account on August 19, 2024, with ransom demands amounting to N1.5 million. Despite raising N350,000, which was sent through a betting account, communication from the abductor ceased after August 23.
Investigations by intelligence agents revealed that the suspect had a personal connection to Christiana, as evidenced by their interactions on social media. By tracing transactions linked to the ransom and monitoring the suspect’s cell phone, authorities were able to locate and arrest him at his parents' home in Ikorodu. Disturbingly, after his arrest, the suspect confessed to killing and burying Christiana in the house.
The tragic incident has caused a national outcry, with social media users demanding justice under the hashtag #JusticeForChristiana, calling for swift action and accountability in the case.
