Abdulssamad Musa, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Kashere, met a tragic end after being fatally stabbed by a fellow student during a heated argument over a football match.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, July 2, 2024, has been confirmed by ASP Buhari Abdullahi, spokesperson of the Gombe State Police Command. According to Abdullahi, the argument between Musa and his colleague, who were neighbors in the same compound, escalated into a violent altercation.

"The altercation turned fatal when one of the students used a knife to stab Abdulssamad Musa, an 18-year-old criminology student in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences," Abdullahi stated.

Tragically, Musa succumbed to his injuries due to the lack of immediate medical assistance. Abdullahi expressed dismay that instead of rendering aid, neighbors fled the scene, leaving Musa without crucial first aid."The accused, also a 300-level student who had returned from Industrial Attachment Training, fled after the incident but efforts are underway to apprehend him," Abdullahi added.

The police spokesperson emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence among residents and cautioned against unnecessary disputes that could escalate into violence."Football is meant to unite people, not to cause fatalities," Abdullahi reiterated, urging the public to embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts.

The incident has stirred sadness and concern within the university community and beyond, highlighting the consequences of unchecked violence stemming from trivialdisagreements.
