Twelve Ajayi Crowther University Students Acquitted of Murder Charges
Twelve students from Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, charged with conspiracy, murder, and negligence in the death of fellow student Jefry Akro, were acquitted by the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan due to lack of evidence.
In a significant legal development, twelve students from Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, who were facing murder charges, have been acquitted by the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan. Initially, twenty-five students were arraigned on June 5 for charges of conspiracy, murder, and negligence in connection with the death of 22-year-old Jefry Akro, a fellow student.

Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi discharged the twelve students—Kehinde Martins, Samuel Okorie, Mustapha Khalid, Yusuf Adeniran, Joseph Areoye, Iyanuoluwa Oyelakin, Obaloluwa Olalekan, Emmanuel Adejumobi, John Daudu, Moses Abiola, Hammad Tijani, and David Kolawole—after legal advice revealed no evidence linking them to the alleged crimes.
Additionally, Femi Oladoye, a university security guard charged with negligence of duty, was granted bail at N250,000 with two sureties. Oladoye was accused of failing to prevent the fatal beating of Akro, which was allegedly carried out by the aggrieved students using planks and electrical wires.

The case, which highlights serious concerns about campus security and student conduct, has been adjourned until July 8 for further mention. The prosecution, led by CSP Funke Fawole, maintains that the offenses contravened Sections 516, 515, and 324 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
