TY Danjuma Donates $1.36M to UI College of Medicine, Setting Record for Highest Individual Contribution

 Former Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Theophilus Danjuma, has made history with a generous donation of $1,363,108.43 to the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI). This substantial contribution, facilitated through the T.Y. Danjuma Foundation, marks the highest individual donation to date and is earmarked for the construction of a student hostel.

The Provost of CoMUI, Professor Olayinka Omigbodun, revealed the details during a joint press conference with the Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association (ICOMAA) after the groundbreaking ceremony for Block D of the student hostel.

Represented by his wife, Senator Daisy Danjuma, the donor expressed commitment to the realization of the student hostel building project. The envisioned 280-room hostel, consisting of blocks A to F and a utility building, will accommodate a total of 664 students.

Professor Omigbodun stressed the critical role of the hostel in the re-accreditation process by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). The project, an alumni-driven initiative in collaboration with ICOMAA, is planned to be executed in phases.

The Provost, flanked by Professor Gbemisola Oke and Professor Adefatai Adeniyi, acknowledged Lt. General Theophilus Danjuma's philanthropy, citing its significance in supporting ordinary people. She urged others to emulate his example.

The President of ICOMAA Worldwide, Professor Emmanuel Otolorin, and Platinum donor Dr. Modupe Sokunbi expressed gratitude for the donation, appealing for additional support to ensure the timely completion of the project.
