UDUS Governing Council Finalizes Promotion Exercise, Approves 9 Academic Staff for Professorship

The Governing Council of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), at its 172nd meeting chaired by Prof. Attahiru Jega, OFR, has finalized its promotion exercise and approved the promotion of nine academic staff members to the rank of professor.

Vanguard Press reports, following the release of the university’s special bulletin on June 20, 2025, that the promoted staff are now ranked as professors in their respective fields.

Dr Ibrahim Garba from the School of Medical Laboratory Science (SMLS) is now a Professor of Microbiology; Dr Sa'adatu Muazu Jodi from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is now a Professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology, both effective from January 1, 2024. Dr Aliyu Mahmuda from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has been promoted to Professor of Veterinary Parasitology, also effective from January 1, 2024.

Additionally, Dr Abbas Mahmud from the Faculty of Education and Extension Services (FEES) is now a Professor of Adult & Non-Formal Education, effective from January 1, 2025. Dr Asama'u Adamu from the College of Health Sciences is now a Professor of Pediatrics, & Dr Umar Zayyanu, also from the College of Health Sciences, is now a Professor of Physiology—both effective from January 1, 2025, among others
