The Deputy VC (Academic) of the UI, has urged telecommunications giant Globacom to enhance its existing relationship with the institution by becoming a strategic partner in areas such as ICT, telecommunications services, and corporate social responsibility.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Ibadan, Professor Aderonke M. Baiyeroju, has urged telecommunications giant Globacom to enhance its existing relationship with the institution by becoming a strategic partner in areas such as ICT, telecommunications services, and corporate social responsibility. Professor Baiyeroju made the call during a courtesy visit from a Globacom delegation, received on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale.

During the visit, Professor Baiyeroju commended Globacom for its role in providing affordable telecommunication services and low-cost data plans in Nigeria. She emphasized the university's commitment to equipping its students with practical skills beyond academics, particularly in fields like Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology, to maintain its tradition of excellence in teaching and learning.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor highlighted the institution's interest in collaborating with Globacom on initiatives such as the "Smart Campus" project, institutional digitalization, e-learning, and other technological developments. She expressed optimism that this visit would deepen the relationship between the university and Globacom, fostering a mutually beneficial strategic partnership for both staff and students.

"The University of Ibadan is eager to work with Globacom on smart campus initiatives and other digital projects that would enhance learning and technological advancements," Professor Baiyeroju said, noting that such a partnership would also benefit the university’s drive to remain at the forefront of education in Nigeria.

Leading the Globacom team, Mr. Adeniyi Odejobi, Director of Sales, emphasized the company's desire to collaborate with the university in areas including fixed internet services, smart learning solutions, learning management systems (LMS), and overall ICT infrastructure development. He highlighted Globacom’s efforts to support the education sector through initiatives such as sponsored data for LMS, smart ID cards, and other digital solutions for students and staff.

Mr. Odejobi expressed enthusiasm about working with the University of Ibadan on establishing an incubation hall to train students in ICT, as well as contributing to the university's Smart Campus goals. He praised the university's leadership for its purposeful direction and the quality of education provided to its students, stating that Globacom is committed to helping institutions achieve their digital transformation objectives.

The proposed partnership with the University of Ibadan aims to further enhance the institution’s digital capabilities and infrastructure.
