Efforts to establish a medical equipment remanufacturing center at the University of Ibadan (UI) are underway, aiming to enhance healthcare accessibility and affordability in Nigeria. Stakeholders from Glasgow, Lagos, and Ibadan recently convened at an international workshop hosted at UI's Design Studio, funded by the Royal Society London and spearheaded by Professor Akinwale Coker.

The workshop highlighted the significance of medical equipment remanufacturing for developing nations like Nigeria, emphasizing its potential to conserve foreign exchange, create employment opportunities, and improve healthcare access. Professor Winifred Ijomah, Director of the Scottish Institute for Remanufacturing, Glasgow, underscored these benefits.
The project's objectives, outlined by Principal Investigator Professor Coker, focus on addressing Africa's remanufacturing infrastructure deficit. Dr. Chibueze Achi discussed plans for the proposed Medical Equipment Remanufacturing Centre in Ibadan, emphasizing the importance of a robust business model and logistics network.

UI's Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Strategic Partnerships, Professor Oluyemisi Bamgbose, SAN, expressed the university's full support for the initiative during a courtesy visit, highlighting UI's proficiency in managing international collaborations under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Kayode O.
