UNIABUJA VC Denies Responsibility for Withheld Salaries Amid ASUU Strike
He attributed the delay in salary payments to a potential glitch in the Remita payment system, not to any actions by the university.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’allah, stated that the institution is not responsible for the withheld salaries of its Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members, who have been on strike for over 40 days. The strike is related to issues surrounding the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor.
In a statement released on Monday, Na’allah clarified that despite the Federal Government’s "no work, no pay" policy, the university management had approved the payment of salaries to all academic staff, including those on strike. He attributed the delay in salary payments to a potential glitch in the Remita payment system, not to any actions by the university.

Na’allah expressed disappointment that the ASUU branch, which has not worked for over a month, is now accusing the university of withholding salaries. He emphasized the management’s commitment to addressing the issue and noted that the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) had confirmed the release of May 2024 academic salaries.
Members of both ASUU and the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) at the University of Abuja have expressed frustration over the unpaid salaries. Despite this, the striking ASUU members have vowed to continue their action until their demands are met.
