UNIABUJA Welcomes New Pro-Chancellor, AVM Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd)

Air Vice-Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd), a distinguished military officer with extensive experience in strategic and security studies, has been appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the University of Abuja.

UNIABUJA Welcomes New Pro-Chancellor, AVM Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd)

The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) has announced the appointment of Air Vice-Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd) as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. Born on February 21, 1965, in Katsina Local Government Area, Katsina State, AVM Kaita brings a wealth of experience and a distinguished military career to his new role.

AVM Kaita began his education at Capital School, Kaduna State, obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1977. He then attended Kings College, Lagos, and later Government College, Katsina, where he earned his General Certificate of Examination (GCE) in 1982. His academic journey continued at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) from 1983 to 1986, where he completed his NDACE 'A' levels.

In his pursuit of advanced knowledge, AVM Kaita earned a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the Bangladesh University of Professionals in 2012. He furthered his education with an MPhil in Defence and Security Studies from the NDA in 2019 and is currently pursuing a PhD in Security Studies at the NDA.

Throughout his illustrious career, AVM Kaita has undergone numerous professional trainings in flight safety across various countries, including Spain, the United States, and Bangladesh. As a flying instructor, he has logged over 1,500 instructional hours and more than 4,500 flying hours.

His military service includes notable positions such as Air Officer Commanding Special Operation Command (2017-2018), Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Command (2018), Deputy Commandant at the NDA (2018-2019), Director of Strategy at Defence Headquarters (2020), and Chief of Defence, Transformation and Innovation (2020) before his retirement in 2021.

AVM Kaita has been recognized for his significant contributions to the military, including the delineation and demarcation of training areas for safety, the production of the first Standard Checklist of Abt18 Aircraft, and the computerization of training manuals and instructional briefs. His leadership also pioneered the basic transport flying training course.

The University of Abuja is confident that AVM Kaita’s extensive experience and commitment to excellence will be invaluable in his new role as Pro-Chancellor, guiding the institution towards greater heights.
