UNIABUJA Wins Audience Award at 2024 Wageningen Food Innovation Challenge in the Netherlands

The University of Abuja won the Audience Award at the 2024 Wageningen Food Innovation System Challenge (FSIC) in the Netherlands. Two teams from the university were among the top 18 finalists from nine universities worldwide, showcasing innovative solutions in food system transitions.

The University of Abuja has emerged victorious, winning the prestigious Audience Award at the grand finale of the 2024 Wageningen Food Innovation System Challenge (FSIC) in the Netherlands. This global competition seeks to build partnerships between Wageningen University and institutions worldwide to foster youth engagement and entrepreneurship in food system transitions.

The University of Abuja’s participation in the challenge was highly commendable, with two teams being shortlisted among the top 18 finalists from nine universities across the globe. The university's involvement highlights its commitment to addressing critical global food system challenges and promoting innovation among its students.

The two finalist teams from the University of Abuja were supported by an esteemed faculty. The lead supervisor of the Sesame Nutrigenious team, Dr. Ogunlade-Anibasa Grace Oyiza, and the mentor of the Sugar Shakers team, Prof. Taibat Adebukola Atoyebi, played crucial roles in guiding the teams to success. Prof. Akeem Abolade Oyerinde, the university’s FSIC-WUR coordinator, and Malam Alkassim Umar, Deputy Registrar of the Academic Office, also contributed to the teams' accomplishments. Additionally, team members Ogunlade Oluwakemisola Olayinka and Ameh Peter ThankGod were instrumental in the teams' outstanding performances.

Before departing for the grand finale, the teams presented their innovative projects to the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi, who expressed her support and encouragement.
