The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has celebrated the graduation of a new set of Dental Surgeons during its Physicians' Oath-Taking Ceremony, known as Sponsio Academica.
The event, held at the College Meeting Hall of the College of Medical Sciences, saw eleven graduates licensed as Dental Surgeons.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita, urged the graduates to uphold the institution’s reputation and described their certificates as symbols of trust from the university.
The Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, Prof. Ngim E. Ngim, commended the graduates for their dedication and reminded them to adhere to medical ethics. Similarly, Dr. Stephen Agbor, representing the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), encouraged them to maintain integrity and professionalism in their careers.
Dr. Denis Iyaji Ogar, Chairman of the Nigeria Dental Association, Cross River State Chapter, delivered the Sponsio lecture, emphasizing the importance of documentation and specialization in their field.
The ceremony concluded with the graduates pledging to uphold the ethics of the dental profession while serving as proud ambassadors of UNICAL.
