UNICAL: VC commends retired Veteran Journalist for giving back to society during book presentation

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi has commended a renowned Veteran retired journalist, for giving back to society, Myschoolnews report.

Prof. Florence Obi gave the commendation at the International Conference Centre of the institution during a book lunch/Presentation, titled " Fundamentals of News Reporting and Production" authored by Lady Tessy Alfred 

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor administration, Prof. Eno Grace Nta, She said the book as the title reads, will help Media practitioners to know the fundamentals of News Reporting and Production.

While congratulating the author for making another material available for students and Staff in the Institution, she stated that News Reporting is a serious business because lives depend on it stressing that those interested in News Reporting will find the book very interesting to read.

" Let me express our Vice Chancellor's warm greeting to you for giving us another Important text for our students, staff and others. Congratulations!, I am mostly elated that this book is coming from someone like you who has carved a niche for herself in investigating journalism, News Casting and News Production." She said.

This is even as she bemoaned the lack of facts in many news reports, especially from social media.

Earlier in his remark, the Chairman of the occasion and an erstwhile Governor of Cross River State, Mr Clement Ebri stated that the book will address some of the misgivings in News Reporting and Production maintaining that, most of the information available on social media is not News in essence.

The Chairman who was represented by Prof. Gabriel Ikpi thanked the author for providing a timely guide for journalists.

Also speaking, the Bishop of Calabar Diocese, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Prof. Nneoyi Egbe said the book is very apt in a society with less interest in reading.

He noted that, many years ago, he got interested in watching NTA Calabar News because of duo veterans Lizzy Alfred and one Miss Immaculata Effa stressing that the author has left an indelible mark in the field of Journalism.

He however encouraged guests at the event to make proper use of whatever God has blessed them with.

Lending his voice, a one-time NUJ Chairman, of the CRS chapter Hon. Ekpo Okon lauded the author for putting her vast experience of over thirty years into text for Media practitioner's use. 

The event which featured the unveiling and launching of the book was well attended by notable Media personalities like the General Manager NTA channel 9 Calabar, NUJ Chairman CRS, among others.
