UNIJOS Attains MDCN Accreditation for Dentistry Program

In a landmark achievement for the University of Jos (UNIJOS), the Faculty of Dental Sciences has been granted accreditation by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to commence its Dentistry program. This accreditation marks a significant milestone for the institution and the healthcare education sector in Nigeria.

Key highlights of the accreditation include:

1. Accreditation Scope: The accreditation currently covers preclinical dentistry, paving the way for the induction of 20 students into the program.

2. Training Phases: The Dentistry program is structured into three phases: pre-phase, phase 1, and phase 2. At this stage, preclinical dentistry includes foundational courses such as the science of dental biomaterials, dental operative techniques, prosthetic techniques, and endodontics.

3. Future Plans: While the accreditation initially focuses on preclinical dentistry, plans are underway to expand into full dental training upon subsequent MDCN evaluations.
