University of Lagos (UNILAG) is proud to celebrate the recent ministerial appointments of two distinguished alumni, Dr. Tunji Alausa and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, to the Federal Executive Council by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. These appointments underscore UNILAG’s legacy of producing leaders who shape Nigeria’s progress across diverse sectors.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, an alumnus of the College of Medicine, Class of 1993, has been appointed as the Minister of Education. Dr. Alausa previously served as Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare and is an internationally recognized nephrologist and hypertension specialist. His academic journey from UNILAG to an Assistant Professorship at Rush University Medical School in the United States highlights the global footprint UNILAG graduates achieve.
Also joining the council is Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, MFR, appointed as the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment. A 1998 law graduate of UNILAG, Dr. Oduwole went on to pursue advanced studies at Cambridge University and Stanford Law School, where she earned a doctorate in International Trade and Development. Her career includes roles as Special Adviser on Ease of Doing Business under President Muhammadu Buhari and contributions to the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) implementation, underscoring her commitment to national development.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, extended heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the university, applauding both ministers for their achievements and their commitment to public service. “Their appointments reflect the enduring excellence of UNILAG education and our commitment to producing leaders who drive positive change in Nigeria,” she said.
The UNILAG community anticipates that Dr. Alausa and Dr. Oduwole will bring their wealth of experience, expertise, and the university’s tradition of excellence to their new roles, advancing the nation’s growth and development.
