The University of Lagos, UNILAG, has reiterated its commitment in strengthening the interactions and relationships between the academic institution (the "gown") and the local town (the "town") that can benefit both the university and the community.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Management has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing town and gown partnerships during the opening of the 2024 Digital Humanities Workshop and Conference organized by the Centre for Digital Humanities (CEDHUL).

This commitment was emphasized by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services) of UNILAG, Professor Lucian Obinna Chukwu, at the event which took place on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Faculty of Arts Boardroom, UNILAG.

Prof. Chukwu highlighted UNILAG's dedication by awarding a contract for the renovation and rehabilitation of the Arts Theatre. This move underscores the university's commitment to nurturing artistic talent and deepening the impact of humanities. CEDHUL, recognized for promoting scholarly activities in humanities, played a significant role in organizing the workshop and conference.

The 2024 Digital Humanities Workshop and Conference also featured a keynote address by Brian Rosenblum, Co-Director of the Institute for Digital Research in Humanities at the University of Kansas. The theme, "Exploring Opportunities and Possibilities in Digital Humanities & Digital Cultures," guided discussions during the two-day event held at the Language Laboratory, Faculty of Arts, UNILAG.

Professor Tunde Ope-Davies, Director of CEDHUL, praised the event as a unique convergence of minds dedicated to pushing the boundaries of knowledge through digital technology.
