The Northeast Youth Initiative for Development has urged the Yobe State government and security agencies to reopen and secure schools, including GGSTC Dapchi and Federal Government College Buni Yadi, which were closed due to security concerns.

The North East Youth Initiative for Development, a non-governmental organization, has called on the Yobe State government and security agencies to reopen and secure Government Girls Science and Technical College (GGSTC) Dapchi, Federal Government College Buni Yadi, and other schools closed due to security concerns.

The Executive Director of the Initiative, Comrade Dauda Muhammad Gombe, made this appeal during a validation meeting on the draft of the State’s Policy for Safety, Security, and Violence-Free Schools. He emphasized the role of civil societies in advocating and supporting government efforts to achieve its goals.

Gombe highlighted ongoing discussions with the government to find suitable locations for these schools. He also noted that the policy aims to coordinate safety and security responses against violence in schools and host communities. To enhance school security, the policy has engaged various stakeholders, including teachers, private security guards, vigilantes, and local hunters.

It is worth recalling that suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked GGSTC Dapchi on February 19, 2018, abducting many students. Similarly, on February 24, 2021, insurgents attacked Federal Government College Buni Yadi, killing numerous students and destroying 24 buildings.
