UNILAG Senate Honours Retiring Professors for Distinguished Service
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Senate has honored three distinguished professors—Professor Gregory Osas Simire, Professor Catherine Oyenike Oke, and Professor Ndukaeze Nwabueze—ahead of their retirement in March 2025.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Senate has celebrated three esteemed professors ahead of their retirement from active government service in March 2025. The recognition took place during the Senate meeting on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, as the university community honored their dedication and contributions to academia.
The retiring professors are Professor Gregory Osas Simire from the Department of European & Integration Studies, Professor Catherine Oyenike Oke from the Department of Science Education, and Professor Ndukaeze Nwabueze from the Department of Sociology.
Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, commended the trio for their invaluable service to the university and their significant impact on knowledge advancement. She extended heartfelt wishes on behalf of the university's management, staff, and students, praying for their continued good health and fulfillment in retirement.
In their remarks, Professors Simire, Oke, and Nwabueze reflected on their careers, sharing insights into their professional journeys and offering recommendations for the growth of tertiary education in Nigeria. They also expressed gratitude to their families, colleagues, and the UNILAG community for the opportunity to contribute to academia.
