UNILAG Students Shine at 2025 Cavista Hackathon with Groundbreaking Innovations
Students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) excelled at the 2025 Cavista Hackathon, themed Smart Automation: Enhancing Care through Integrated Systems.

Students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) delivered an outstanding performance at the just-concluded 2025 Cavista Hackathon, showcasing groundbreaking ideas with the potential to transform lives.
The event, themed Smart Automation: Enhancing Care through Integrated Systems, witnessed the participation of 32 teams competing for top honors. UNILAG fielded 16 teams, demonstrating exceptional technical expertise and a strong commitment to solving real-world challenges.
Representing the UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, at the event was Dr. Victor Odumuyiwa, Director of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) IT Hub (NITHUB), UNILAG. He encouraged the students to continue leveraging innovation, creativity, and collaboration to drive positive societal change.
At the end of the highly competitive hackathon, five UNILAG teams advanced to the final rounds, with two teams, Team Trend Setters and Team TechStars, finishing as first and second runners-up, respectively.
Team Trend Setters’ Innovative Healthcare Solution
Team Trend Setters secured the first runner-up position with Vital Aid, an innovative healthcare accessibility solution. The team, comprising Ladipo Samuel (Computer Science, 200 level), Lydia Solomon (Insurance, 200 level), Sumayah Adegbite (Mathematics, 200 level), and Emmanuel Adesipe (Mechanical Engineering, 200 level), designed Vital Aid to redefine emergency healthcare in Nigeria.

Team TechStars’ Maternal Health Innovation
Team TechStars finished as the second runner-up with Nurturely, a platform dedicated to expectant and nursing mothers. The team members—Augustine Favour Uwana, Gbeleyi Okikiola Adedayo, Osinaku Ugonna Sylvia, and Hussain Oluwatobiloba Ayobami, all Computer Science students (200 level)—developed Nurturely to enhance maternal care through technology.

The 2025 Cavista Hackathon, now in its third edition, aims to harness the knowledge of young Nigerians, empowering them to leverage technology in addressing real-world problems. By fostering innovation and unlocking collaborative opportunities, the competition provides students with a unique platform for experiential learning.
