UNIMAID Reiterates Commitment to Knowledge and Research

The University of Maiduguri remains committed to providing a productive knowledge base, fostering research, and driving innovation as key mechanisms for thriving in the 21st-century world.

This was made known by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, when he hosted the TETFund Monitoring and Implementation Team in his office on Tuesday, 20th May 2025.

Professor Mele noted that as the premier university in the North East, the University of Maiduguri continues to expand its frontiers by engaging in groundbreaking research and innovation across various fields. These efforts aim to benefit not only the geo-political zone but also the nation at large.

He emphasized that the University’s proven track record of excellence and productivity has made it a mentoring hub for emerging tertiary institutions in the region. It is also recognized as one of the leading collaborative universities in research and other academic endeavors across the federation.

Earlier in his remarks, Professor Ibrahim Iliya, the Team Lead for the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Monitoring and Implementation 2021 National Research Fund (NRF) batch who also serves as Director of Research and Innovation at the University, stated that the exit meeting was organized to brief the Vice Chancellor on the progress achieved by the team.

He explained that the team had conducted a comprehensive review, which included site visits to TETFund project locations within the University and meetings with individual research recipients. These engagements he added aimed to gather open and constructive feedback to guide the University’s management on the way forward.
