The University of Medical Sciences in Ondo town, Ondo State, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West African College of Physicians (WACP) to initiate its postgraduate program. This partnership aims to enhance the academic experience and impact of postgraduate students at the university.

During the MoU signing ceremony held on Friday, Professor Adesegun Fatusi, the Vice Chancellor of UNIMED, emphasized that this collaboration marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind between UNIMED and WACP. He highlighted the university's preparedness with adequate human and infrastructural resources to support the program effectively.

"The partnership will enable students to benefit from supervision by experts in their respective specialties across WACP," Professor Fatusi stated. "UNIMED has already aligned its curriculum with the criteria set by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and has begun test-running the program, including a pilot PhD program with over 50 participants."

In his remarks, Jeremiah Madaki, Chairman of WACP, underscored the importance of the collaboration in providing complementary skills to medical doctors, thereby enhancing their professional performance. He emphasized that the program aims to augment the existing fellowship training provided by WACP, focusing on skills that can further elevate the practice of medical professionals in Nigeria and West Africa.
